why i love new york summers pt I
Rain.
Its 95 degrees all day. Sweltering and skin feels sticky to the touch. Everything is utterly uncomfortable and the only respite is finding somewhere air conditioned and enjoying it for as long as possible.
Then comes the summer rain.
The air stays hot and the rain stays cool. We walk through the streets huddled under my yellow umbrella. Arms locked. The conversation takes on a lighter tone. Everything feels lighter: the air, the breeze, our gait. My feet are wet in their flip flops, gritty from the dirty city floor. But somehow this is New York summer in my mind. The twenty minute rain storms that pass in a hurry. All sound and fury. Lots of lighting and thunder.
Cooling down after a long hot day.
