Sentience

And you can look back, remembering the exact moment when you first put down the pen. Stopped feeling certain things. Pushed all of the important issues to the back of your mind. Packed your bags, hopped on a plane and moved to across the country to run straight from one thing and into another. Because that had always been the answer, a quick get away, an easy escape.

Its amazing how effortlessly the world can be shut out.

You can run from a boy, to a drug or drink of choice, into the waiting arms of technology, this new book or that new fad…repeat as needed.  (keep your eyes on the circles here) Till it gets to this one moment. This one catalyst. And there you’ll stand wide eyed and bleary. Awake. The snooze button will no longer work. This is life.

You’ll ask yourself what do you know of your block, your neighborhood, your city, your people, your world. What have you done to make this or anything better. What have you been so preoccupied with that you lost sight of all of the issues that had once seemed so important, all of the change. At what point did you become content with coffee shop chats about art instead of trying to make even the smallest changes in the world.

This is consciousness. Hyper-awareness. It may be temporary but necessary.  It’ll leave you yearning for more encounters with this state of feeling. You will thirst for knowledge and burn, once again, for truth.

Good night and good luck.
